Sailor Mercury: OOAK doll

So, admittedly I have a few finished projects that I have yet to post on here.. and two of them include dolls!  But, there was a reason I couldn’t post this beauty till now, which is that she was a surprise for my cousin, and this doll was sent across the ocean to England.  I didn’t want to ruin the surprise, so I had to wait!  I am insanely happy with how she turned out, despite some mess-up (like burning most of the pieces, breaking one arm.. sigh sigh) I managed to finish her, and I think that the broken arm turned out awesome, in the sense that I didn’t want to make another arm so I made it a gun.  This was my first attempt with Polymer clay, specifically Sculpy III.  I’m not entirely sure how I like using Polymer clay.. I enjoy that I don’t need to be constantly using water/ struggling against my distaste for dried clay on my skin, but I found that the clay got really soft, which made it harder to sculpt nicely defined features.  Baking clay in the oven also makes me incredibly nervous, and for good reason (note: burns on most pieces).  I have a few more different types of Polymer clay, I am willing to give it more chances in the hopes I get more used to it.

Here are some in progress shots, to see her completely finished, check out my project view on Behance!

Josebabarock : one-of-a-kind handcrafted wire wrapped jewellery

Remember this post from a long time ago (aka: two months ago!) where I promised a *next* post about what I received from my sister for Christmas?  I apologize for taking this long to post about her beautiful gift, and to show off some of her other work.  My sister makes handcrafted wire wrapped jewellery, using mostly precious and semi-precious stones.  She has made some really creative pieces, and although I got the opportunity to photograph some to share here, she has a lot more posted on her facebook page here.  Thank you for the lovely gift, and I look forward to seeing what you make in the future!

Sailor Moon Update {new anime, manga box set and tattoos}

To be honest, I have been avoiding posting *too much* Sailor Moon on this blog.  But I have been getting a lot of hits lately looking for new information and believe me.. this is information to know if you are a fan.

To cut right to the good stuff, it was announced in July that Naoko and Kodanshi Comics are already working on a serialized anime of Sailor Moon, to be released Summer 2013.  No more information has been released, but it has been confirmed that it is NOT simply a film project.  Will this be a complete re-boot, or a strange continuation?  (Personally, I am hoping and somewhat expecting a re-boot)

But, the news was made by Momoiro Clover Z, who sang the original Sailor Moon theme song, during a live event that was celebrating the manga’s 20th anniversary.  Also intriguing is that the original voice actors for Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask were present.  Either way, I can’t wait!  (for more information check out this news article)

Also, just in time for Christmas, Kodansha is releasing the first six manga in a simple box set.  I am desperately behind in my Sailor Moon manga, but I already have the first three so I just can’t justify it (but it’s on sale for $49.46!). Currently, its only available for pre-order on

Lastly, these are the last remaining Sailor Moon tattoos that I have found over time but not posted.  I don’t expect that I’ll have another post including Sailor Moon tattoos.  But here are two links to other Sailor Moon tattoo posts: Part One / Part Two

(As with my previous tattoo posts, none of these tattoos are mine, and I did not take any of these photos.  If any of these photos are yours (or yourself) and you want them removed, please let me know and I will certainly take them down, thanks!)

Thanks for reading this quick side post!  I will be back soon with that cake recipe.  ^_^

the Soldier of the Sky and the Soldier of the Deep-Sea earrings

I recently finished another swap, called an OTT (one tiny thing) swap.  It meant that the craft I sent was not allowed to be more than 5″ in any direction.  This one was an anime themed swap.  My partner loves Haruka and Michiru (Sailor Uranus and Neptune) from Sailor Moon.  She also mentioned that she would like earrings, and so I decided to try a new craft: jewellery making!  It was fun, and I do like the results, but I don’t think it is something I would want to do too often.

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune themed hand-made earrings

I made the planet symbol charms, and the wand icon charms out of polymer clay and mixed media.  I assembled all the chain and bead pieces. I also decided to make her a small jewellery box to hold the earrings:

Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus hand drawn altered jewellery box.

I picked up the small box (about 3″ long and 1 1/2″ tall) at a second-hand store.  The wood was in nice condition, and the inside was lined in nice blue velvet.  I used two stickers that I had from my childhood (note: that the stickers are definitely not official Sailor Moon merchandise, another sticker from the same pack says “Sailor Moorery” and other silly misspellings).

Currently, I’m working on a garden/ recycling swap.  Send outs are mid this month so I better get working…. Thanks for checking out my latest work!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My partner and I don’t exactly celebrate Valentine’s day.  I admit, we do buy candy and chocolates (although not till tomorrow), it is more because we just want to eat candy and chocolate, and not out of some weird sense of obligation or expectation.  We have a pretty healthy relationship (I think any ways), we spend a lot of time together, doing a lot of different things.  This past Christmas, we decided to try a new hobby out: model Gundam kits.

So, for Christmas, we bought three, one for each of us, and then one to assemble together.

This is what the model kit looks like when you open the box: a lot of blisters of pieces and an instruction manual that is not in English (but thankfully has nicely detailed images).

This was our joint Gundam.  It has great jointing, allowing for good pose-ability and is really stable for standing.  We weren’t too thrilled by the matte pastel colours though (oh well!)

That’s my Gundam in the front.  It is a Nobelle Gundam Berserker model, also known by many as “the Sailor Moon Gundam”.  Although, overall I think that she looks more like Classic Sailor V than Sailor Moon (the shoes, the hair being main reasons).  She has terrible joints in her ankles, making it impossible to pose her without a frame.  Her legs also fall off really easily.  My partner’s Gundam is visible in the back, I forget what model it is, but it’s joints are rather in between mine and our joint Gundam’s in terms of stability and poses.

A New Toy {and more coming!}

For my birthday, I got an E-Reader, this was for a variety of reasons: I wanted an easy way to carry reference pictures, I needed a central organization station, and I want to read more old books. So, for the birthday craft swap I am in, I asked for an E-Reader cover. I received it today, and now I am very excited to be able to carry it around with me!

Made by A2K (on Craftster)

I also received some crocheted slippers from another member, which are very comfy. I also used a gift card I received at Christmas for Chapters to order Sailor Moon Vol.3 and Cardcaptor Sakura Omnibus Vol.1. I am pretty excited to be able to see Sailor Zombie (or would it be Zombie Moon?) in print. ^_^

(I don't know/ think that this is actually in Sailor Moon Vol.3 however...)
