the Soldier of the Sky and the Soldier of the Deep-Sea earrings

I recently finished another swap, called an OTT (one tiny thing) swap.  It meant that the craft I sent was not allowed to be more than 5″ in any direction.  This one was an anime themed swap.  My partner loves Haruka and Michiru (Sailor Uranus and Neptune) from Sailor Moon.  She also mentioned that she would like earrings, and so I decided to try a new craft: jewellery making!  It was fun, and I do like the results, but I don’t think it is something I would want to do too often.

I made the planet symbol charms, and the wand icon charms out of polymer clay and mixed media.  I assembled all the chain and bead pieces. I also decided to make her a small jewellery box to hold the earrings:

Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus hand drawn altered jewellery box.

I picked up the small box (about 3″ long and 1 1/2″ tall) at a second-hand store.  The wood was in nice condition, and the inside was lined in nice blue velvet.  I used two stickers that I had from my childhood (note: that the stickers are definitely not official Sailor Moon merchandise, another sticker from the same pack says “Sailor Moorery” and other silly misspellings).

Currently, I’m working on a garden/ recycling swap.  Send outs are mid this month so I better get working…. Thanks for checking out my latest work!

Doom!

They’re the biggest threat!
{I love that we can love the same arch,
and that we don’t care that it’s only filler.}

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My partner and I don’t exactly celebrate Valentine’s day.  I admit, we do buy candy and chocolates (although not till tomorrow), it is more because we just want to eat candy and chocolate, and not out of some weird sense of obligation or expectation.  We have a pretty healthy relationship (I think any ways), we spend a lot of time together, doing a lot of different things.  This past Christmas, we decided to try a new hobby out: model Gundam kits.

So, for Christmas, we bought three, one for each of us, and then one to assemble together.

This is what the model kit looks like when you open the box: a lot of blisters of pieces and an instruction manual that is not in English (but thankfully has nicely detailed images).

This was our joint Gundam.  It has great jointing, allowing for good pose-ability and is really stable for standing.  We weren’t too thrilled by the matte pastel colours though (oh well!)

That’s my Gundam in the front.  It is a Nobelle Gundam Berserker model, also known by many as “the Sailor Moon Gundam”.  Although, overall I think that she looks more like Classic Sailor V than Sailor Moon (the shoes, the hair being main reasons).  She has terrible joints in her ankles, making it impossible to pose her without a frame.  Her legs also fall off really easily.  My partner’s Gundam is visible in the back, I forget what model it is, but it’s joints are rather in between mine and our joint Gundam’s in terms of stability and poses.

A New Toy {and more coming!}

For my birthday, I got an E-Reader, this was for a variety of reasons: I wanted an easy way to carry reference pictures, I needed a central organization station, and I want to read more old books. So, for the birthday craft swap I am in, I asked for an E-Reader cover. I received it today, and now I am very excited to be able to carry it around with me!

I also received some crocheted slippers from another member, which are very comfy. I also used a gift card I received at Christmas for Chapters to order Sailor Moon Vol.3 and Cardcaptor Sakura Omnibus Vol.1. I am pretty excited to be able to see Sailor Zombie (or would it be Zombie Moon?) in print. ^_^

(I don't know/ think that this is actually in Sailor Moon Vol.3 however...)

V Stands for Victory {Sailor V Costume}

Okay, these are still not the *best* images, and that is entirely my fault (I was extremely tired when they were taken, I managed to forget to put my gloves on, and I didn’t get a single shot that shows the pretty awesome, glittery moon I had on my forehead..  so better pictures will have to wait until I fix the top of the costume).

Sailor V Costume/ Cosplay

So, technically, the costume isn’t finished.  The top needs the most work, I need to fix the red panels on the bottom, and add the red on the sleeves.  I also need to make the pointy shoulder guards (I did however, have armour with shoulder guards, but they  are not pointy).  I also failed to make the white choker, which will be easy to make for next time.  I had an elaborate idea of making an Artemis purse, but I couldn’t figure out the design in time to actually make it.

But, overall, I am pretty happy with my first full attempt at making a Sailor Moon costume of any kind.  I think that I adjusted the costume to be appropriate to withstand cold, Canadian Halloweens, which was a goal when making it.  I hand dyed the skirt and fuku (technically the fuku is made from material cut off the bottom of the skirt, I am so crafty!), and I hand dyed the front bow.  The glasses I made from previously owned glasses that I made clay additions for, glued on and painted red.  If anyone has any questions, or wants details about any part of the costume let me know in the comments and I’ll be happy to give more info!

Better late than never? {Halloween}

I have been insanely busy the past few weeks.. there was a mad rush to finish my Halloween costume in time for our trip to Toronto, plus I’ve been trying to get my business back in shape for the Holiday season (but I will get to that more later).  This is still just a quickie post, to show off my costume (in part) briefly:

V stands for Victory!

I will be updating in the next few days with more details on how I assembled and made this Sailor V costume.

Uh.. are you supposed to be battling? {Sailor Moon}

Quick, lets all of us cover our eyes before the bad guys expose themselves!
