CCMC {Vagrancy Films Event}

Doom!

They’re the biggest threat!

and that we don’t care that it’s only filler.}

Cindi Talbot {Somewhere In Between}

This past weekend, some friends and I were able to go to a fantastic art opening at a local bar (I’m not sure if this is popular elsewhere… but art shows happen a lot in bars in London).  Any ways, the art show features an artist I went to school with, and whom I respect very much (plus I love her art).  She is very adventurous with her art, experiments with a lot of different mediums and techniques, but this show focused on her printmaking.

Cindi also has a website that is currently under construction, but is a site to keep an eye on.

Painting and updating a cute entry table {Ivysaur colour palette} WIP

This week I finally started a project that I had known that I wanted to do for some time.. only I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do (colour/ style etc wise).  Last week, I got a great idea that is inspired by my favorite Pokemon: Ivysaur!  (not that I don’t love Bulbasaur, and technically the table will still fit in as a Bulbasaur table any ways)

The table sits against a wall by our front entry way (between our entry way, and the doors to the kitchen actually).  We found the table outside, at some point (a few years ago already).  It is solid wood and generally made well so I’m excited to make it beautiful!  Now, this is the table in question:

Before!!

The paint job was pretty rough, a lot of paint had chipped off.  Plus the colour seemed to be this dirty yellow-ish colour that always looked dirty.

Pre-sanding, showing the inside of the drawer.

The first thing I did was clean it, then I used a sanding block to rough up the entire thing.  I took off the knob, only to have it rip off a bunch of paint from the front (since the knob was painted onto the drawer, le sigh). This actually made the table look cleaner and nicer already, as I had sanded off the dirty old gloss.

Post-sanding, removed the knob.

After I had a rough idea/ plan in my head about how I was painting it, I decided to start on the drawer.  Originally I wanted to paint the front of the drawer, but the damage caused by removing the knob, plus the already damaged top right corner means that I need to be a little more crafty. But, I have painted the inside of the drawer and am pretty happy with how it is turning out.

New plan for the front, first two layers on inside of drawer.

I plan on having the table entirely painted by the end of next week.  I think I will want some type of varnish or gloss for it (at least for the top, possible the bottom shelf and the drawer though).  But I need to learn a bit more about finishes for furniture first.  I also need to purchase a new knob, but I plan on shopping around a bit for it first.

Thanks for checking out my newest project!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My partner and I don’t exactly celebrate Valentine’s day.  I admit, we do buy candy and chocolates (although not till tomorrow), it is more because we just want to eat candy and chocolate, and not out of some weird sense of obligation or expectation.  We have a pretty healthy relationship (I think any ways), we spend a lot of time together, doing a lot of different things.  This past Christmas, we decided to try a new hobby out: model Gundam kits.

So, for Christmas, we bought three, one for each of us, and then one to assemble together.

This is what the model kit looks like when you open the box: a lot of blisters of pieces and an instruction manual that is not in English (but thankfully has nicely detailed images).

This was our joint Gundam.  It has great jointing, allowing for good pose-ability and is really stable for standing.  We weren’t too thrilled by the matte pastel colours though (oh well!)

That’s my Gundam in the front.  It is a Nobelle Gundam Berserker model, also known by many as “the Sailor Moon Gundam”.  Although, overall I think that she looks more like Classic Sailor V than Sailor Moon (the shoes, the hair being main reasons).  She has terrible joints in her ankles, making it impossible to pose her without a frame.  Her legs also fall off really easily.  My partner’s Gundam is visible in the back, I forget what model it is, but it’s joints are rather in between mine and our joint Gundam’s in terms of stability and poses.

Follow that Unicorn on the Road to Love {hand-sewn felt unicorn brooch}

I made this unicorn felt brooch for a fellow crafter’s birthday the other week and just thought I would share!  Oh, and don’t forget, free gift with every heart magnet set purchase over on my Etsy shop.  ^_^
